Ricardo Montalban Has Passed

Ricardo Montalban, Who portrayed Khan on TOS " Space Seed" And Star Trek II, has died of natural causes. He will be remembered, and, once again, this is a sad day for Trekkies.

Orci On Trek, The Fallen Getting Revenge, And Comedy

A new interview with Roberto Orci talks about the big E and about the New Transformers movie:

With regard to Star Trek, what would you say to fans who might take issue with portraying Kirk as a reckless youth, getting into bar fights with Starfleet cadets?
Orci: Well, they cite the quote that he was a stack of books with legs in the Academy. The truth is that in our movie there's nothing that precludes Kirk from being a stack of books at the Academy. What you see is what he is before the Academy. Some would argue that him being a rebellious bar fighter in our movie is absolutely consistent with canon.

With those lavish, epic-looking space battles, is it safe to say they are no longer inspired by submarine battles?
Orci: It's safe to say that that has not been totally thrown away, but imagine super-advanced submarines. It still maintains some of the maritime origin battle-wise, either a sub battle or ship to ship, cannon to cannon, Master and Commander battle. Just, I think, on a different pace.
Some fans also take issue with the idea that they're building the Enterprise on Earth, instead of assembling it in space. Care to respond?
Orci: The response is that the Enterprise is not, nor has it ever been, a pleasure yacht. It's a ship that's able to warp space around it to several times the weight of gravity. So the idea that it somehow couldn't handle one Earth atmosphere of gravity was not something I think anyone who would board that ship would ever want to contemplate. The rationale for building it into space is when you have flimsy things that never have to be in gravity, but that's not what the starship Enterprise is.
Was it a major priority to work in a sword fight for Sulu?
Orci: You know, when you think of Star Trek, if you're a fan of the original, any one of us can kind of make a top 20 list of things you might see. I bet you a lot of our lists would be similar. There'd be a lot of overlap like that. Any fan could think of the top 20 things, and we tried to put as many of those things in the movie as possible.
And you got to show us the very first redshirt death.
Orci: Again, that's one of those things where if you're not a fan, you will learn that it's not good luck to be a redshirt. And if you are a fan, the minute you start to come into that sequence, you have an anticipation for what's going to come that nobody else has. That's one of the joys of having been able to tell this movie.

What can you tell us about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the sequel to Transformers?
Orci: The second movie is like an extreme version of the first movie.
You must have finished before they started planning the IMAX shoot, but did you write anything that lends itself to IMAX?
Orci: I mean, almost anything that Michael Bay directs lends itself to IMAX. The treatment that we turned in before the strike was primarily about preparing the action sequences. So he and the amazing Ian Bryce had the ability to really plan some gigantic sequences that I can't imagine what they're going to look like in IMAX.
What else are you working on?
Orci: Transformers will come out a month after [Star Trek]. The Proposal is something Alex and I executive-produced. It's a romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds that comes in between Star Trek and Transformers. Right now we're writing Cowboys and Aliens with Damon Lindelof, our co-conspirator in Star Trek [and executive producer of ABC's Lost].
What is Cowboys and Aliens?
Orci: It's a graphic novel that's been around for a while in which you mix the genres of the Old West with the science fiction of an alien invasion.
How many novels are there, and where do you narrow down your source?
Orci: There are a lot of graphic novels. You've just got to go through them and just see what inspires you, what grabs you and what seems to have good imagery that might translate into a movie. Some graphic novels maybe wouldn't make such great movies.
What inspired you about that one?
Orci: That audiences are getting very sophisticated, and the idea of taking two known genres, a western and an alien-invasion movie, and literally crashing them together is something you haven't seen a whole lot of, and it's something you can't predict what that's going to turn up. What is crashing this chocolate and this peanut butter going to turn up?
How far along is that?
Orci: We have an amazing first draft from [Mark] Fergus and [Hawk] Ostby, the gentlemen who co-wrote Iron Man. We're in the middle of doing a second draft with Damon Lindelof, and hopefully we'll have something in a couple months.
Will you be writing on it?
Orci: Yeah, Alex and I and Damon Lindelof.

Star Trek Movie Props ON DISPLAY @ CES Convention

From The Webmaster Program!!

Lenovo, one of the marketing partners on STAR TREK, will be displaying three original props from the upcoming feature film at this years CES Convention in Las Vegas. Included in this display are Kirk’s Communicator, Uhura’s Communications Unit and Bones’ Medical Tricorder.
Visitors can view these props in front of the AquaKnox restaurant at the Venetian Hotel starting tonight at 6pm (Wednesday, January 7th) through midnight (12am) on Friday, January 9th.

I will try to get pictures ASAP! This is the begining of 09 marketing, folks!

Off Topic Wednesday!

Even though our slogan is All Trek, All The time, we have to go on the off topics at time.
Here is some cool news:

* We are now on twitter.. sorry Trekmovie. It was already on my mind.

* NEW LOGO! Thank you Elizadolots!

* Computer Generated Actors:

Silicon Valley is on the verge of producing sophisticated software that will allow motion picture companies to create actors on a computer who are visually indistinguishable from real people, San Jose's Mercury News reported today (Thursday). In the words of the newspaper, which closely follows the sofware industry, when software engineers finally achieve what it calls "the holy grail of animation," stars would be able to "keep playing iconic roles even as they aged past the point of believability like Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft or Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter." Rick Bergman, general manager of AMD's graphics products group, told the Mercury News that his company "is getting real close" to producing computer-generated actors that will look identical to real human beings.

* NFL PLAYOFFS:
GO PANTHERS!!!!
It'd going to be a tough one as the Panthers take on Arizona at 8:15 on FOX.

*Not too much in the news. Please pray for the Roddenberry family as they take on tough times with the passing of Majel.

Our Facebook And Youtube Pages should be up and running by the end of the week!
So stay tuned!

Star Trek Is DONE!!!

it has been reported that Star Trek, is done!!! That means that the marketing will most likely start soon. We will have every piece of marketing reported. That means, I will not be throwing away my Burger King kids meal toy, as well. It also means we may all find ourselves in the toy section, looking for Star Trek Models, amd even in the girls section for the Barbies.

Another big thing is that it has been announced that award winning Ben Burtt is providing sound effects. You know, the guy who did Star Wars, ET, and Wall-E.He created the iconic lightsaber and R-2 D2 sounds. He is, of course a Trek fan. He says he was very excited about this one, and i'm sure he did have fun creating phaser sounds and re-introducing our favorite little alarm.

Trek Check has also hit a milestone. Thanks To Elizadolots, we now have our official logo!!! She did a great job, so, again a big THANK YOU to Eliza.

STO Corner: The Path To 2409-2384- And more Screens!

EARTHDATE 2009.01.01
Path To 2409: 2384
Posted by Awen
Federation analysts say that a shakeup in the Romulan power structure has left the empire vulnerable to attack from within and without. Starfleet is dispatching additional ships to the border of the Neutral Zone and considers the Romulan situation one of the main threats to Federation safety and security.
After Tomalak’s defeat by Donatra and her fleet, Praetor Tal’aura removes him as proconsul, choosing Sela as her right hand and fleet commander. Sela, a human-Romulan hybrid with extensive experience in the military and intelligence fields, has been a part of several major Romulan operations, including a failed attempt to invade Vulcan and coordinating support for the House of Duras’ attempt to take over the Klingon High Council in 2367.
As a gift to Tomalak for his decades of loyal service to the Romulan Star Empire, Tal’aura allows him to “retire” to his rural estates on Romulus.
The Romulan defeat at Xantila has made open war with Empress Donatra unfeasible. Praetor Tal’aura reluctantly agrees to negotiate with the Imperial Romulan State to determine the new borders and the establishment of a neutral zone, but rejects the Federation’s offer to mediate the talks. Donatra says she would welcome the Federation’s input, but that she will defer to Tal’aura’s decision in this matter, and sends Admiral Taris to the Romulan capitol as her representative.
On Stardate 61602.00, Tal’aura is found dead in her private chambers. Tal Shiar investigators report that the praetor appears to have been attacked in her sleep.
The Romulan capitol erupts in a firestorm of rumors and accusations. Groups accused of responsibility for the assassination include a coalition of the noble houses, the Tal Shiar or agents working for Empress Donatra and the Imperial Romulan State.
Donatra denies having anything to do with the murder. “I face my enemies on the field of battle with honor,” the empress announces in an address to her citizens, “not with a knife in the dark.” She recalls Taris from Romulus and orders her to prepare to defend Imperial holdings.
At Tal’aura’s funeral in Ki Baratan, Sela publically blames the Remans and the Unification movement for the attack. “They claim to desire peace,” Sela says, “but ally with the murderers and usurpers who terrorized our planet and led us to the brink of destruction. The blood of one praetor was not enough for the Remans. Tal’aura was the victim of their thirst for destruction.”
But the upheaval in Romulan space is not the only potential war that Starfleet is monitoring. On Stardate 61829.83, the IKS Quv is attacked by a Gorn ship and 207 Klingons die in the battle. Representatives of King Xrathis of the Gorn claim that the commander of their warship was acting without orders, but refuse to surrender the surviving crew of the Quv to the Klingon Empire. In response, Chancellor Martok expels the Gorn’s diplomats from the empire and orders ships to the Klingons’ border with the Gorn Hegemony.
Representatives of the Federation Council are pleased to accept Bajor’s renewed application for Federation membership, and pledge to fast-track the planet’s admission. The increased traffic and commerce that could arrive with Federation membership prompts the Ferengi to open an expansive embassy and gift shop near Quark’s on Deep Space Nine.
Odo, acting as the Great Link’s ambassador to the solids, meets with his fellow changeling Laas on Koralis III. Odo invites Laas to return with him to the Gamma Quadrant. Laas refuses, choosing instead to continue to search for other changelings in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
And Starfleet decides to transfer the Soong-type android B-4 to the custody of the Soong Foundation. The prototype android was deactivated after its discovery by the Enterprise-E in 2379, but foundation representatives say they hope to restore his full positronic functioning.
